HOUSTON -- Head coach Bill O'Brien said the addition of left tackle Laremy Tunsil is good for a lot of different reasons.
The Texans gave up two first-round draft picks, cornerback and special teams player Johnson Bademosi and offensive lineman Julien Davenport for Tunsil and wide receiver Kenny Stills over the weekend.
Tunsil was at NRG Stadium on Sunday and Monday meeting with the Texans' staff.
O'Brien said he felt really good about being able to get a proven left tackle to protect quarterback Deshaun Watson.
A theme of of Monday's meeting with media members was how much the Texans coveted proven, healthy NFL players over draft picks.
"They’re hard to develop. Laremy Tunsil’s an excellent player," O'Brien said.
James Liipfert, who joined the Texans as director of college scouting last year, was with the New England Patriots when he scouted Tunsil out of Ole Miss.
"I think he’s smart, tough, dependable. I think he’s athletic," O'Brien said. "I think he’s a guy we scouted when he was coming out of college. We have several people here that are very familiar with him. ...
"We’re excited about watching him on tape and what he can bring to our offense. He’s come in here, you can tell he’s humble and hungry and he’s looking forward to being a Texan."
As a player, Tunsil is revered for his intelligence, instincts and athleticism.
