“I don't change the system because of one player, and you find out during my years that one player in football makes a difference but it doesn't make the team. It's a team game and everybody on defense has to produce, and when everybody does their job, the defense is better. If guys are not able to do their job, then there's holes in the defense and you don't play as well then,” Crennel told the media on Thursday.
Clowney, 26, has made the Pro Bowl the last three seasons and is credited as a big reason as to why the Texans have been good defending the run. In 2018, only Chicago and New Orleans had a better rush defense.
With Clowney now in Seattle, Whitney Mercilus will be next in line for Clowney’s former rush linebacker role, while Brennan Scarlett is scheduled to start opposite of Mercilus.
