HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) The Texans’ tight end situation was entertaining to watch during training camp with free agent acquisition Darren Fells, two second-year players Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas, third-round rookie Kahale Warring and camp sensation Jerell Adams.

Surprisingly, Thomas and not so surprisingly, Warring were placed on IR, a decision that gives the Texans some options.

“Relative to where they were health wise, and the amount of time they would be out, we felt like it was in the best interest of the team from a numbers standpoint at tight end to do that, and then have the ability to possibly bring one, or both of them back,” Texans’ Head Coach Bill O’Brien said on Tuesday.

Despite the pair of tight ends being placed on IR, the Texans still kept four tight ends on the roster with the addition of 10-year pro, Logan Paulsen.

“We needed some to be able to block the edge, and do some things in the intermediate passing game,” O’Brien added. “He came in here yesterday (Monday) and works hard you can tell already (he’s a) hard worker, tough guy and learns well.”
