Cecil's Short List: Can the Texans offense do it again?

Monday Night was fun to watch!

I know the Texans didn’t win, but you have to be somewhat excited about the season. Watson went toe to toe with one of the best to ever play quarterback. That’s a big deal.

He always seems to shine the brightest in the biggest moments.

Bill O’Brien called a very good game, being creative and finding ways for eight different people to touch the ball.

There’s so many weapons for the offense it’s scary, but Watson still was sacked six times and hit a lot.

The Texans must find ways to keep him off the ground ASAP.

Aaron Colvin was released but he’s not alone to blame for the loss Monday night. The defensive backs did not have one pass break up in over 40 attempts. Not to mention the pass rush was not seen at all.

With that being said, here are a few things to look for this Sunday afternoon:

1. JJ Watt vs. Jawaan Taylor
JJ was not on the stat sheet for anything on Monday night.

I wouldn’t expect to see that again.

Let’s give (Saints offensive tackle) Ryan Ramczyk credit. He played well against JJ and did a good job with him for most of the night.

But JJ is due for a monster game. He is highly motivated to not only play well, but play at a really high level.

I like JJ to have a big game against the rookie Jawaan Taylor.

2. Keke is back!!
Guess who’s back? Yes, Keke is back.

He has kind of been the forgotten wide receiver since his ankle injury and the Texans acquired Kenny Stills.

Let’s not forget this is the same kid who had 11 catches in his NFL debut last year. He is the perfect slot player for this offense, when healthy. Adding him this week is just another weapon for DW4.

The slot position is so important in this offense and it’s obvious that Keke and Watson have a connection on the field. It will be interesting to see how they use him.

Keke is coming off an ankle injury, so will he be used sparingly in a package, or will they let him just run and play?

Either way, it’s more weapons for the defense to be concerned with.

3. Deandre Hopkins vs. Jalen Ramsey

When you have a matchup like this, you must pay attention.

These two are arguably both the best at their positions, and they compete!!

Hopkins has gotten the best of him lately, but this is something to keep your eyes on all game.

Plus, you never know, Jalen and Hopkins are good friends and it doesn’t seem like the Jaguars are going to sign him back next year.

Maybe you’ll see him in a Texan uniform in 2020???

4. Can the offense do it again?

The Jaguars last week gave up 500 yards in total offense and 40 points to the Chiefs.

Just like the Texans defense, they will be hungry to redeem themselves this week. This will be a hard fought game. Any division game is tough, but this Jaguars defense is good on all three levels.

Can the Texans continue to spread the ball around to the playmakers and put up enough points to win?

That will be tested Sunday afternoon.

5. Lonnie Johnson, you’re up!!
With Aaron Colvin getting cut after the game you would think all things lead to Lonnie Johnson Jr. getting more playing time.

Will he be used in nickel and dime situations, with him being an outside corner and possibly Roby playing the inside nickel?

Or will Phillip Gaines be thrown right in the mix at the slot?

We will see what happens, but I expect Lonnie to get a lot more playing time than last game.

The best way for a player to learn in the NFL is by getting experience.

I’m ready to see this young kid play. He has a confidence and aggressiveness about him that I love. Getting reps this week is important because there are some really good wide receivers coming up on this schedule.

They drafted him in the second round for a reason. Let’s see it.
