According to the Athletic, the Astros have traded Tyler White to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and will designate Tony Kemp for assigment prior to Friday's game in St. Louis.
The Astros designated White for assignment Friday, meaing he was removed from the 40-man roster and placed on waivers. If he went unclaimed, the team had seven days to trade, release or send him to the minor leagues. The Astros elected to trade White to the Dodgers for pitcher Andre Scrubb.
Scrubb, 24, was an eighth round pick by the Dodgers in 2016. In 29 games with AA Tulsa this season, he's compiled a 6-1 record with a 2.45 ERA in 47.2 innings.
White has struggled in 2019 after a breakout 2018 season. The Astros 33rd round pick in 2013 batted .225 with three home runs and 21 RBI with an OPS of .650.
With Carlos Correa due to return from the Injured List Friday, the Astros needed to create a spot on the 25-man roster, so Kemp appears to be the odd man out. He's batting .227 with seven home runs in 2019. If he clears waivers, the Astros will have to trade, release or outright him to the minors.
