“They did a great job of playing team defense. We felt like we had to try to do the best we could to keep Minshew in the pocket, because he made so many plays outside of the pocket, such a competitive guy. To try to do the best we can to stop Fournette, who was the second leading rusher in the NFL coming into the game, I thought we did a decent job of that. They completed some passes, Fournette had a couple of runs, but overall I thought our guys played good team defense, and then we were able to take the ball away which was big,” Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien said following the win.
Leonard Fournette entered Sunday’s game with the second most rushing yards in the NFL and the Texans’ defense held Fournette to a season low 40-yards on 11 carries.
“It was a good job of team defense. Everybody was disciplined in their pass rush, disciplined in their gap control relative to the running game, and then our secondary played disciplined,” O’Brien added. “They did their jobs, they did what we asked them to do, and they did it efficiently. Some balls were completed, and there were a couple runs, but overall I thought our defense played really good team defense.”
