HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) -- Jacksonville head coach Doug Marrone made the risky decision to go for the win after rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II led the Jaguars on a touchdown drive at the end of Sunday's game.

But running back Leonard Fournette came up just short of the goal line, and the Texans beat the Jaguars 13-12 in their home opener at NRG Stadium.

Each team only scored one touchdown, and those didn't come until the fourth quarter.

The defenses were stingy and the offenses were largely ineffective.

Yet the Texans (1-1) came out on top, bouncing back from last week's season-opening loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

Credit safety Justin Reid with the goal line stop on Fournette, who would have given the Jaguars a one-point lead with just seconds left to play.

Head coach Bill O'Brien acknowledged the offense did not play as well as they wanted to, but said the defense picked them up. He called it a good, team win for the Texans.

After settling for field goals in the first half, the Texans took a 13-3 lead over the Jaguars in the fourth quarter after Deshaun Watson scrambled near the goal line.

It was 4th and short, left tackle Laremy Tunsil had just limped off the field and the Texans decided to go for it.

Tunsil had been deemed questionable to return with an injured ankle but was back on the field for the next offensive drive.

The Texans scored on two field goals by Ka'imi Fairbairn in the first half, the last of which was a chip shot to end the second quarter.

Jacksonville did score on a 40-yard field goal by Josh Lambo in the second quarter.

Minshew led the Jaguars on a 14-play, 68-yard touchdown drive at the end of the fourth quarter, finding DJ Chark Jr. in the back of the end zone.

But Jacksonville was unable to convert the two-point conversion.

The Texans visit the Los Angeles Chargers next week. The Jaguars (0-2) host the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night.
