That’s why Reid showed up Thursday with a $6,500 check to Kid’s Meals Houston, which focuses on meeting children’s nutritional needs during the health crisis.
"Whatever way you see fit to your situation you help out,” Reid said. “Philanthropy is a big way of us sticking together. We're playing on the same team and we want to make sure we come out of this pandemic as safe as possible."
Reid said he wanted to use his platform to bless other people, and hopefully encourage someone else to help, too.
The impact has not gone unnoticed. Kid’s Meals Houston saw a 133-percent increase in meals delivered, the Chronicle reported. The group went from delivering 700 meals daily to 7,000 meals weekly, according to the Chronicle.
Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday schools would remain closed until at least May 14.
The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is the largest public school system in Texas and the seventh largest in the United States. The Houston area has five of the 10 largest school districts in Texas.
