Veteran safety Mike Adams is hanging up his cleats after parlaying an undrafted start into a 16-year NFL career.
Adams, a two-time Pro Bowler, most recently played for the Texans in 2019. He made the announcement Wednesday morning on NFL Network.
Adams, 38, was called "Pops" around the Texans locker room. His fellow safety Justin Reid was in the third grade when Adams first entered the league, something they laughed about in the Texans locker room when it was brought to their attention late in the season.
Adams was called upon when the Texans' secondary continued to suffer injuries. Adams suffered a concussion himself in 2019, which kept him out of the Week 12 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, one of his former teams.
In the Texans' overtime win against the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round, Adams forced one of Josh Allen's fumbles. Adams is just one of only two Texans in franchise history with a tackle for a loss and a forced fumble in a playoff game. The other is Brooks Reed.
Adams also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts (where is went to the Pro Bowl) and Carolina Panthers.
