(SportsRadio 610) -- Last year's American League Rookie of the Year Yordan Alvarez and right-handed pitcher Jose Urquidy are among five Astros players placed on the injured list Monday.
Alvarez and Urquidy, presumably the Astros' fourth starter, have been missing from summer camp for undisclosed reasons since the team returned to Minute Maid Park on July 3.
Also on the injured list are right-handed pitchers Shawn Dubin and Ralph Garza Jr., and left-handed pitcher Cionel Pérez, according to Brian McTaggart at MLB.com.
Urquidy's absence and subsequent place on the 10-day injured list makes him unlikely to be ready for the Astros' first regular season series, a four-game home stand against the Seattle Mariners beginning July 24.
The Astros could do some shuffling with their younger pitchers. Josh James, who was among those competing for the fifth starter spot, had also been missing from camp until Monday.
Earlier Monday, the Astros announced exhibition games scheduled against the Royals in Kansas City next week.
They will play the Royals on Monday, July 20, at 7:05 p.m. CT, then again on Tuesday, July 21, at 1:05 p.m.
