(SportsRadio 610) -- Another J. Reid is joining the Texans' group of defensive backs.

This one is a cornerback out of Penn State, selected by the Texans with the 141st overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

John Reid was recruited in high school by Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, who was the head coach at Penn State at the time.

Reid attended a camp at Penn State when he was a sophomore and O'Brien said they offered him a scholarship on the spot.

Now, he will play for O'Brien on the professional level.

"His movement skills, his ability to follow directions, his intensity ... he's a good guy. We're glad to be able to have him," O'Brien said.

Reid, a data science major at Penn State, said he prides himself on versatility, footwork and explosiveness.

"I take a lot of pride in my preparation," Reid said. At the next level, it's going to be great to have a room full of people in the secondary with a ton of years that I can learn from."

Some of the players Reid studies are the Broncos' Chris Harris and the Bills' Tre'Davious White. Reid characterizes himself as a film junkie who studies different players depending on what skills he's trying to learn or improve.

Reid joins a cornerback group that features Bradley Roby, Gareon Conley and Vernon Hargreaves, all of whom will be in just their second seasons with the Texans.

Conley and Hargreaves were added to the team via trade and waiver wire, respectively, during the 2019 season.

It shouldn't be too confusing with third-year safety Justin Reid already established on the team. John Reid joked that he might just put "Jr." on the back of his jersey to distinguish himself.

Reid was used in several roles at Penn State, spending time on the inside and outside of the defense. He was also a returner on special teams for the Nittany Lions.

Reid played in 13 games as a true freshman in 2015 and started all 14 games in 2016. A knee injury in spring practice forced him to miss the 2017 season, but he was afforded a medical redshirt.

Reid started 24 games for Penn State over the last two years. He finished with seven interceptions and 125 total tackles in his four seasons.

He ran a sub- 4.5 in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine.
