Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus has agreed to a four-year extension with the team, according to multiple media reports.
Mercilus' deal with worth $54 million, averaging $13.5 million per year and $24.5 million guaranteed, the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reported.
Mercilus was drafted by the Texans in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and has become one of the team's leaders both on and off the field.
He currently leads the team in sacks with 7.5 in 2019. Mercilus became just the third player to record at least five sacks and four forced fumbles in his team's foirst four games of a season, joining his teammate J.J. Watt (2018) and Bears linebacker Khalil Mack (2018).
