Payne & Pendergast: First Round of NFL Draft Could Not Have Gone Better For Texans

(SportsRadio 610) -- The 2020 first round went as expected – without the Houston Texans making a selection.
But as uneventful as it was for the Texans faithful? Get ready, because Friday night could be equally fulfilling.“I’m watching during the first round and I’m thinking to myself, ‘This could not go any better for the Houston Texans’,” Sean Pendergast said.“It’s working out so well because O’Brien was aggressive in filling certain positions before this draft,” Seth Payne said. “And the positions that he didn’t address? All just fell to where the Texans sit right now!”Payne and Pendergast presented a list of prospects that some would consider a surprise are still available entering the second round, all names that both hosts feel would be great picks for Houston:

  • LB Zack Baun, Wisconsin
  • DE AJ Epenesa, Iowa
  • DE Marlon Davidson, Auburn
  • S Xavier McKinney, Alabama
  • S Grant Delpit, LSU
  • Ross Blacklock, DL TCU

“How about the fact that two safeties are still sitting there?!” said Pendergast. “Bill O’Brien even brought up safety as a need for this team when he was asked about it last night.”“If Grant Delpit is sitting there at 40, some of his tackling issues were more because of injury than anything else. He’s extremely talented and would fit well. I think the Texans would take Delpit if he’s still there.”It’s noted, though, that even with the names there right now … eight picks away? The Texans still have to pull it off.“O’Brien’s got to get this pick right,” said Payne. “There are plenty of good players out there right now. I’m expecting to be very pleased with this pick right now.”And if Payne and Pendergast had their wish at 40? Pendergast would take Epenesa, while Payne would snag Blacklock.
