Altuve, Abreu home runs lead Astros over Cardinals, 10-7

José Altuve and José Abreu both homered in the eighth inning to help the Astros comeback for a 10-7 victory Wednesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Astros allowed starter Cristian Javier to operate with a 3-0 lead from the first inning, but it was quickly squandered when he gave up four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Cardinals extended their lead to 5-3 in the second inning with a solo home run by Paul Goldschmidt, last year's NL MVP and native of The Woodlands.

Goldschmidt singled in another run in the fourth inning to give St. Louis a three-run lead.

The Astros started to rally in the sixth with Bligh Madris, who was just added to the roster from Triple-A five days prior. Madris hit a double with two outs in the sixth and after Jake Meyers walked, they were driven in by a Martin Maldonado double to bring Houston within one run.

Altuve, returning after missing the previous two games with a heel bruise, sent a 1-2 fastball to left field for a three-run blast to give Houston an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning.

Abreu later followed with a two-run shot of his own.

Abreu's disappointing start the season appears to be taking a turn. His OPS for the season is still an inexplicable .622 (career .847). But over the last 15 games, Abreu's OPS is .916 and his batting average is .302.

Rookie J.P. France gets the start for Houston in Thursday's matchup, when Adam Wainwright pitches for the Cardinals.
