Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is scheduled to make his spring debut Tuesday against the New York Mets after nursing a hamstring injury.
Bregman has been held out of games thus far as a precaution while rehabbing a left hamstring strain. The 26-year-old third baseman has a history of hamstring issues.
Last season, a right hamstring strain kept Bregman on the injured list from Aug. 20 to Sept. 8. He also missed two games in April 2019 with a strained right hamstring.
At the end of Bregman's rookie year in 2016, he missed two weeks after a straining his hamstring running the bases.
"For Tuesday, I've got (Bregman) and (designated hitter Yordan Alvarez) in the lineup, so that'll be the first time that we've had most of my big boys in the lineup," Baker said Monday.
Alvarez made his spring debut Sunday against the Washington Nationals. He was 0-for-3, but said afterward he felt good physically. The 2019 American Rookie of the Year is returning from knee surgery, which ended his sophomore season.
Catcher Jason Castro, who's been sidelined with a right oblique strain, is also scheduled to play Tuesday against the Mets in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Right-handed pitcher Peter Solomon will start for the Astros, with Jairo Solis, Nivaldo Rodriguez and Francis Martes scheduled to appear in relief.
