HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- The Astros scratched Yordan Alvarez from Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox after the slugger jammed his left index finger in a door at his home, Dusty Baker revealed.
"He was careless with a door," Baker said. "Hopefully he'll be able to come back tomorrow or the next day, but it's sore right now."
"Your hands are so important when you hit. Until you hurt your hands, you don't really have an idea, but you don't really appreciate him, so we gotta take care of him now."
Baker did relay some positive news on the injury front. Jose Abreu, who was eligible to be activated of the 10-day IL on Sunday, could return before the Astros leave for Detroit this weekend.
"He's getting progressively better,' Baker said. "He could be ready on this homestand, maybe, so we'll make that determination a day-to-day thing."
