HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Astros pitcher Cristian Javier is one of three finalists for the American League Rookie of the Year award, the BBWAA announced Monday afternoon.
Javier, 23, finished his rookie season 5-2 with a 3.48 ERA. He appeared in 12 games, making his debut on July 25 out of the bullpen, but filled the hole in the Astros rotation after Justin Verlander's injury. He led all American League rookies in ERA, opponents batting average (.188). He finished third in strikeouts (94) and fourth in wins.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert and Kyle Lewis of the Seattle Mariners are the other finalists for the award which will be handed out November 9.
Jeff Bagwell (1991), Carlos Correa (2015), and Yordan Alvarez (2019) are the Astros previous Rookie of the Year award winners.
