Astros drop series-opener to Rockies, go for split

(SportsRadio 610) - The Astros will try to split a two-game series with the Colorado Rockies after dropping the opener Tuesday 4-3.

Houston jumped out to an early lead with all three of its runs scored in the first inning. Then Astros rookie pitcher Hunter Brown promptly relinquished the lead with a pair of homers in the bottom half of the inning: a two-run shot by Kris Bryant and a solo home run by Ryan McMahon.


Ezequiel Tovar hit triple to give the Rockies the lead in the fourth inning, and they never looked back.

The Astros outhit the Rockies 8-7, but left seven runners on base and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Brown went 5.1 innings, giving up the four earned runs on six hits, two homers and seven strikeouts.

Brandon Bielak (4-5, 3.79 ERA) takes the mound for Houston on Wednesday, with Austin Gomber (8-7, 6.19 ERA) pitching for the Rockies. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. CT.
