Astros pitcher Framber Valdez has a fractured left ring finger, general manager James Click announced Wednesday.

Valdez injured the finger during Tuesday's spring training start against the Mets.

Valdez was hit by a comeback to the mound in the first inning, but was able to pitch effectively after the injury.

"At this point, the medical staff needs to do additional tests and imaging before deciding on the next steps."

Tuesday's outing was the first of the spring for Valdez, who threw two innings.

Astros catcher Martin Maldonado acknowledged the "tough loss" Wednesday afternoon and said Valdez would be back stronger.
