(SportsRadio 610) - Astros first-year general manager Dana Brown has already communicated his intentions to super agent Scott Boras, who represents both Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman.

Brown wants both players, key members of the Astros' two World Series titles in six years, to spend their entire careers with the franchise.

Altuve, 32, has two more seasons remaining on a seven-year, $163.5 million contract. Bregman, 28, would also become a free agent in 2025 on his current five-year, $100 million deal.

Even with two seasons left on their contracts, Brown is already prioritizing extensions for Altuve and Bregman.

"These guys should retire here," Brown told reporters at the Astros' spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Florida over the weekend. "They should be in Houston for life."

Altuve liked the sound of it. He's been with the big league team since 2011, winning three AL batting titles and an MVP in addition to the championships.

Last season, Altuve led all second basemen in fWAR (wins above replacement, per FanGraphs) and qualified second basemen in wRC+ (weighted runs created plus).

"I hope to retire here, so I think we are on the same page," Altuve said from West Palm Beach. "I'm happy to play with my teammates in Houston, with my friends, like I always say."

Bregman's performance last year also warrants consideration. He was tied for fourth among third basemen in fWAR and seventh in wRC+. Bregman said he loves the city of Houston and is looking forward to hearing from his agent Boras whenever extension talks pick up.

"I feel like the last few years have been great playing for this city, for this team, with great teammates in front of great fans in Houston," Bregman said. "So it definitely means a lot that he says that and we'll see what happens."
