Astros' Jeremy Peña placed on injured list with rib fracture

Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña is being placed on the 10-day injured list with a "small fracture in one of the ribs on his left side," the team announced Monday.

Peña was hit by a pitch in Friday night's game against the Chicago Cubs. The team said initial X-rays taken that night did not reveal a fracture, but additional imaging Sunday afternoon and an MRI and CT scan revealed a small fracture.

Peña, who is hitting .322 with 11 home runs, 40 RBI, 48 runs scored and 15 stolen bases with an .867 OPS, will be with the ballclub during their upcoming road trip, receiving treatment.

The Astros will announce a corresponding roster move Tuesday.
