Astros' Jose Altuve undergoes thumb surgery

HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Astros second baseman Jose Altuve underwent surgery on his right thumb Wednesday after suffering a fracture during the World Baseball Class, general manager Dana Brown announced.

Altuve suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Daniel Bard in Team Venezuela's quarterfinal loss to the United States on March 18 in Miami, He will be able to resume baseball activities in two months.

The Astros second baseman batted .259 in seven WBC games before sustaining the injury, and he's coming off his best season since winning the MVP in 2017. He finished 2022 with a .300/.387/.533 slash line in 146 games.
