HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Jose Urquidy was sailing right along during his start against the Angels on Wednesday night, but after getting Taylor Ward to fly out for the second out of the fourth inning when he looked to the dugout.
"His velocity went down," Astros manager Dusty Baker said. "He took a real slow curveball and looked over at (catcher Martin Maldonado) and he kind of gave us a look."
Astros pitching coach Brent Strom visited the mound with a trainer with Baker joining soon after. Urquidy walked back to the dugout with all three without throwing a single warmup pitch.
"He had some posterior shoulder discomfort and he's day-to-day, so he's getting evaluated by our doctors."
Baker said Urquidy didn't complain of any soreness before Wednesday's start or after his first three innings.
"He was throwing about great. His strike, the ball ratio was outstanding, and then just all of a sudden he just lost his velocity."
Urquidy's ERA dropped to 3.22 after Wednesday's outing.
