Astros' Michael Brantley day-to-day after hit by pitch

(SportsRadio 610) -- Astros left fielder Michael Brantley is out of the lineup Sunday against the Oakland Athletics to recover from a bone bruise in his right wrist.

Brantley's availability is considered day-to-day after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of Saturday's game against the A's.

Brantley remained in the game to run bases, but was then replaced in the lineup by Chas McCormick, who made recorded his first Major League hit Saturday and is starting for Brantley on Sunday.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said he hopes Brantley could be available by the second game of the Angels series, which is Tuesday.

"He's a lot better than he was (Saturday). When he's coming back just depends on his body and how he heals," Baker said Sunday. "We dodged a major bullet by him having no fractures or broken wrist or anything like that. I'm sure his bone is bruised and whenever you have a bone bruise, different people heal at different time intervals. So we've just got to wait to see on a daily basis without rushing him back."

Baker said he does not believe Brantley will need to be placed on the injured list.

Brantley had been the Astros' hottest hitter in the first two games, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored Opening Day, then 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored Friday night.

McCormick takes his place in left field. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored Saturday.

This is the 25-year-old's first career Opening Day roster. McCormick made his Major League debut Opening Day as a defensive replacement.
