(SportsRadio 610) - The Astros are parting ways with general manager James Click after three successful seasons, team owner Jim Crane announced Friday.
Click's contract expired at the end of October, during the Astros' World Series run, and Crane announced they would not enter a renewal for the 2023 season.
Click took over the job in 2020, after Crane fired former general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch in the wake of the sign-stealing scandal. They have since continued their consecutive streak of ALCS appearances, totaling six, the last three of those under the direction of Click.
The Astros appeared in back-to-back World Series the past two seasons, most recently beating the Phillies in six games to win the second title in franchise history.
"We are grateful for all of James' contributions," Crane said in a statement provided by the team. "We have had great success in each of his three seasons, and James has been an important part of that success. I want to personally thank him and wish him and his family well moving forward."
The Astros will later announce the structure of the baseball operations department with Click's departure. Earlier in the week, Crane reached a one-year deal with Dusty Baker to return for his fourth season as manager.
