Astros' Dusty Baker: 'When you're pitching well, life's good'

(SportsRadio 610) -- Carlos Correa's home run may be the lasting memory of the Astros sweeping the Twins in the wild-card round.

Especially after Correa, who's become the de facto spokesman against Astros haters, questioned what people who don't believe they belong in the postseason have to say now that they're winning in it.

But the Astros were carried by brilliant pitching and defensive performances.

The Twins scored a total of two runs on seven hits in the two games.

Framber Valdez, who was a starter for the Astros in the regular season, pitched in relief for Zack Greinke in GAme 1 on Tuesday and retired thirteen straight batters after walking his first two.

He became the first reliever to pitch five scoreless innings in the postseason since Madison Bumgarner did it in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series.

In Game 2, the Twins scored their only run when Nelson Cruz doubled off left-handed reliever Brooks Raley.

"We got good pitching, played good defense and got some timely hitting," Astros manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday after Game 2. "We're all happy about it. This is step one in a three-step process. We'll enjoy this. This is what we wanted to do. …

"When you're pitching well, life's good. When you're not pitching well, life's horrible. And so we just had a great couple of days."
