The Astros have placed outfielder Michael Brantley on the 10-day IL and recalled outfielder Chas McCormick from Triple-A Sugar Land, manager Dusty Baker said in a radio interview on Tuesday.
Brantley was removed for a pinch hitter from Sunday's game against the Yankees with right shoulder discomfort. Baker said an MRI showed inflammation in his shoulder, but no structural damage.
Brantley, 35, has appeared in 64 games this season and is batting .288 with five home runs and 26 RBI.
The Astros are recalling McCormick two days after sending him down to make room for Jeremy Peña. He is batting .219 with six home runs and 16 RBI in 2022. He started the season batting .290, but that number has fallen to .172 over his last 32 games.
