HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Michael Brantley was supposed to return to the Astros lineup Saturday after a quad injury kept him out of the last two games, but the team instead elected to place him on the 10-day IL following a setback.
“He was sore this morning after he worked out in the outfield,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. We were hoping he’d come out here today feeling much better, but he’s actually feeling worse.”
Brantley worked out with Astros third base coach Gary Pettis prior to Friday’s 11-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.
“Gary said that he moved pretty good. He had him going left, right, coming in on some balls. He knows how to play, and he knows his body, I just asked him to be honest with us.”
Saturday was supposed to be the first time Baker would get to trot out the Astros top lineup all season after Yordan Alvarez joined the team Friday, but now he’ll have to wait at least another week.
“I guess this is the way the year is going. You get one guy back and then the other goes down, but at least we’re getting some guys back.”
The move is retroactive to August 12 and the Astros will make a corresponding move before Sunday’s game.
