HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Astros pitcher Ryne Stanek took an important step towards returning to action when he threw his first bullpen session since suffering a sprained right ankle on Labor Day.
"He had a light 'pen and (he) was moving around some," Astros manager Dusty Baker said.
Baker said Stanek will be with the team in Kansas City this weekend, which is 35 miles from where he went to high school in Stillwell, Kansas, and while the Astros manager said Stanek is moving better, he is still walking around with a bit of a limp and there is still no timetable for when he'll be able to be reinstated from the IL.
"This guy has made tremendous progress in a short period of time," Baker said. "That last hurdle is usually the toughest, covering first base and stuff like that, covering home plate, so that's a little ways off."
