(SportsRadio 610) - The Astros are trading starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi to Atlanta for left-handed reliever Will Smith, according to FOX26's Mark Berman.
Smith has a 4.38 and 1.51 WHIP in 37 innings pitched over 41 games this year for Atlanta, where he won a World Series against the Astros last year.

It was a clear need for the Astros to add a lefty to the bullpen and that's what this move accomplishes. This also brings back value for Odorizzi, who almost certainly was not returning to Houston next season.
Odorizzi has a player option for 2023, the third year of his $23.5 million contract signed with the Astros just before the 2021 season. He holds a 3.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP AND .231 opponents' batting average this year.
Last season, Odorizzi posted a 4.21 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and .243 opponents' batting average.
