The Chicago White Sox will hand the ball to Dylan Cease when they try to keep their season alive in game three of their American League Division Series against the Astros, manager Tony La Russa announced on Saturday.

Cease was chosen over All Star left-hander Carlos Rodon, who has been dealing with arm soreness, though could be a possibility to start game four, if the White Sox are able to extend the series.

The 25-year right-hander started 32 games for the White Sox in 2021 and finished 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA over 165.2 innings. He led all of baseball with 12.3 strikeouts/nine innings.

In two starts against the Astros this season, Cease finished 0-2 and allowed nine earned runs in nine innings. He struck out 14 batters and walked four.

The Astros will counter Cease with right-hander Luis Garcia.
