The Astros took advantage of rosters expanding to 28 by activating Jose Urquidy from the Injured List and recalling Enoli Paredes from Triple-A Sugar Land before Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said Urquidy will start Friday's game in San Diego. He hasn't pitched for the team since June 29 when he had to leave his start against the Baltimore Orioles in the second inning due to a shoulder injury.

In 14 starts this season, Urquidy is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA, but right shoulder issues have landed him on the IL twice.

Paredes has struggled with the Astros in 2021 after a promising rookie campaign. He has also landed on the IL twice and compiled a 6.23 ERA in 8.2 innings. He's walked 17 of the 53 batters he's faced this season while striking out just 15.

"He's throwing the ball well," Baker said of Paredes. "His ERA is around 3, which is pretty good for a reliever. His walks are up some, not as much as they were here. He certainly has the stuff, all he has to do is just find the strike zone."

Paredes' ERA with Sugar Land was 3.79 and he struck out 25 hitters in 19 innings while walking 16.
