HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Jose Urquidy will return to the Astros rotation for Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox, the team announced on Sunday.
Urquidy hasn't pitched since he was removed from his May 12 against the Los Angeles Angels after 44 pitches due to shoulder soreness. An MRI revealed no structural damage and Urquidy was able to make a rehab start for Class AA Corpus Christi on May 26, where he tossed 63 pitches over 3.2 scoreless innings.
"I'm very excited to play," Urquidy said. "I'm very healthy right now. Very anxious to do my best to help the team win tomorrow."
The Astros right-hander said his fastball has been clocked at 95 MPH over the course of his rehab and he's been sitting at 93 MPH. He said he did not know if he would have a pitch limit on Monday, but said he'd be able to go at least 70-75 pitches.
In eight starts this season, Urquidy, 26, is 3-2 with a 3.22 ERA. The Astros have not announced whose roster spot he'll take on Monday, but on Sunday the team placed Bryan Abreu on the 10-day IL with a calf injury and optioned Brandon Bielak to Class AAA Sugar Land and recalled Enoli Paredes and Nivaldo Rodriguez
