HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- The Astros will hand the ball to Justin Verlander when they begin their World Series defense in game one of the American League Division Series against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

Verlander finished 7-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 starts since being re-acquired in a trade from the New York Mets before the deadline, which includes allowing one run over 13 innings in two crucial starts last week.

The 40-year old did not face the Twins this season, but he did limit them to one hit over eight scoreless innings on May 10, 2022, and he has a 2.76 ERA in 40 career starts against his former rivals from the AL Central.

Framber Valdez, who was 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four postseason in 2022, will start game two for the Astros.
