Jose Altuve leaves Astros' home opener with hamstring strain after running out infield single

(SportsRadio 610) - Astros star second baseman left in the eighth inning of Monday's home opener at Minute Maid Park after suffering an apparent hamstring strain while running out an infield single.

Houston was already leading the Los Angeles Angels 7-3 when Altuve singled on a soft ground ball to third baseman Jack Mayfield.

Astros catcher Martin Maldonado slid awkwardly, but safely, into second base. Altuve, however, stayed on the ground for a few moments after running through first before limping off the field.

Michael Brantley singled in Maldonado in the next at-bat to extend the Astros' lead to 8-3, which was the final score, but the energy at that point was sucked out of the Juice Box.

After the game, Astros manager Dusty Baker said Altuve appeared to suffer a hamstring strain and is considered "day to day."
