Yordan Álvarez homers twice in Astros' shutout against Blue Jays

Yordan Álvarez homered twice and the Astros' pitching staff combined for a one-hitter Wednesday to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-0.

The Astros (2-5) get their first off-day of the season after getting swept in a four-game series against the New York Yankees and a three-game series against Toronto. They go on the road for the first time this season Friday to face the defending World Series champions and AL West foe Texas Rangers.

Ideally, the Astros will play like they did Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Houston recorded 15 hits, including four by Álvarez, who homered to center field in the third and sixth innings. Álvarez also had an RBI-double in the fourth.

Additionally, Jeremy Peña and Jose Altuve homered in the seventh inning for a few more insurance runs. Astros pitching also did its part.

Cristian Javier allowed just one hit in five innings. Seth Martinez, Rafael Montero, Tayler Scott and Dylan Coleman each pitched an inning of relief.
