Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco undergoes Tommy John surgery
Houston Astros right-handed starting pitcher Ronel Blanco underwent Tommy John surgery Friday, the team announced.
The procedure on his throwing arm included a repair to his ulnar collateral ligament with an internal brace, as well as a repair of the flexor tendon in his forearm.
Blanco, 31, was 3-4 in nine starts overall for Houston this season. He posted a 4.10 ERA and 48 strikeouts with a .210 opponents batting average. In his last five starts, Blanco had a 2.84 ERA with a .170 opponents batting average.
Blanco felt soreness in his right elbow from his last start May 17, leading to his placement on the injured list.
