Report: Astros manager Dusty Baker to retire

(SportsRadio 610) - The Dusty Baker era in Houston is over.

Baker is retiring as Astros manager after 26 seasons managing MLB teams, according to Audacy MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Baker, who has managed the team since 2020, informed Astros owner Jim Crane of his intentions to step away in a private meeting Tuesday, Nightengale reports.

Baker, 74, has managed five different teams to the MLB postseason. His future Hall of Fame career culminated in a World Series title with the Astros in 2022. Houston has played in seven consecutive ALCS, including four trips with Baker as manager.

Baker is a three-time NL Manager of the Year and became the winningest postseason manager in Astros history.

A press conference with Baker, Crane and general manager Dana Brown is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. CT.
