(670 The Score) White Sox star first baseman Jose Abreu’s status for Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Astros on Thursday is uncertain as he continues to deal with an illness.
Abreu has been dealing with flu-like symptoms in recent days, the team said in a statement Wednesday. He had multiple tests that confirmed his illness isn’t related to COVID-19. Abreu didn’t travel with the team to Houston on Tuesday but will head there Wednesday evening, the club said. Game 1 starts at 3:07 p.m. Thursday.

A determination on Abreu’s availability for Game 1 will be made Thursday. Shortly after the team released a statement, manager Tony La Russa expressed full confidence that Abreu would play in Game 2 on Friday if he's not feeling well enough to go in Game 1.
“Jose is feeling better, and his symptoms are improving,” the White Sox said.
Abreu, 34, has been the heart and soul of the White Sox for years. He hit .261 with 30 homers, 117 RBIs and an .831 OPS in 152 games in the regular season.
