Kevin Durant 3-pointer lifts Rockets over Suns

Durant hit the game-winning shot in the final seconds to beat his former team

Hitting the game-winning shot is cool enough, but doing it against your former team is even sweeter.

Especially if you feel slighted in a way, or put off by the way things ended with said former team.

That's clearly the case for Kevin Durant, whose 3-pointer with just a second left to play lifted the Houston Rockets over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.

The Suns led the Rockets for much of the game, but a 20-7 run in the third quarter got them back in it and Durant's heroics at the end put them over the top.

After the game, Durant admitted to feeling "pushed out" of Phoenix and "scapegoated" for their problems.

Durant finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds. While he struggled from 3, having just made one of his 11 prior attempts, Durant ultimately made the most important one.

In his postgame interview with Space City Home Network sideline reporter Vanessa Richardson, you could hear MVP chants from Toyota Center crowd.

Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson had 17 points apiece. It was their activity in the second half that really helped spark the Rockets' rally.

Thompson said he told Durant that the game-winning shot was his own favorite moment as a Rocket.

Perhaps the most unusual part of the game was in the first half, when play was stopped no less than seven times due to a clock malfunction. There was a period in the game when players operated without the shot clock and the public address announcer would have to count them down.

The issue seemed fixed by the second half, but there was a significant delay in action to get the issue resolved.

The Rockets (22-11) are back in action Wednesday when they travel to face the Portland Trail Blazers.
