Kevin Durant trade: Rockets send Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and draft picks to Suns

Kevin Durant will play for the Houston Rockets next season.

The Rockets are sending Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the draft and five second-round picks to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Durant, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday.

Houston gets the two-time NBA Finals MVP who is still one of the game's top scorers, even in his late 30s. Durant turns 37 in September, but he just averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games this season.

Charania points out:

The future Hall of Famer has averaged at least 25 points, 50% shooting and 40% on 3-pointers in three straight seasons, the longest streak ever in the NBA, according to ESPN Research. As a shooter, Durant remains prolific: He shot an NBA-best on jumpers (49.7%) and midrange shots (53.1%). He also had the best shooting percentage on off-the-dribble jumpers (50.9%), according to GeniusIQ.

The deal ends Green's four-year run with the team that signed him to a three-year, $106 million extension in October. Green, 23, was the Rockets' No. 2 overall pick in 2021 and led the No. 2 seed team in scoring this past season with 21 points per game.

But Green struggled mightily in his playoff debut against the Golden State Warriors, scoring 12 points or fewer in six of the seven games. He did score 38 to lead Houston to victory in Game 2, but was otherwise largely a no-show.

Green gets a fresh start with the Suns, where there is a new head coach. Brooks had been a key piece to the Rockets over the past two seasons, but his contract was always a valuable trade asset to help match salaries for a star.
