Rockets forward K.J. Martin has been selected to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend, the Athletic reported Sunday morning.
Martin is 10th in the NBA with 75 dunks this season, accounting for 30 percent of his field goals, after he finished 15th with 115 last season. The third year man out of Florida's IMG Academy is averaging 10.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while playing in all 39 games for the Rockets this season.
Martin joins Ralph Sampson, Kenny Smith, Steve Francis, Chase Budinger, and Jalen Green as the only Rockets to ever take part in the contest, which debuted in 1984, but he's trying to become the first winner. Green reportedly turned down an opportunity to compete for a second straight year.
This year's contest will take place on February 18 in Salt Lake City, and Martin joins Portland's Shaedon Sharpe in the field of four.
