The Rockets will waive Danuel House on Saturday and sign Garrison Mathews to a four-year contract that could be worth up to $8.2 million, ESPN and the Houston Chronicle reported on Friday night.

The decision to waive House, 28, allows him to find a larger role with another team. A sprained left ankle has kept him out of the Rockets' last six games, but he was averaging just 14.6 minutes per game this season, the final year of a three-year, $11 million contract he signed in July 2019.

Waiving House opens up a roster spot for the Rockets to convert Mathews' two-way contract into a standard NBA contract, which allows the team to sign him to a new deal, which is non-guaranteed, and according to the Chronicle will pay the 25-year old $2 million in each of the next three seasons and $2.2 million in the pact's final year.

The Rockets signed Mathews on October 18, two days after he was waived by the Boston Celtics. He is averaging 12.3 points per game with the Rockets this season and has started the last 11 games.

With Mathews' spot freed up, the Rockets will sign guard Trevelin Queen to a two-way contract. Queen, 24, was playing with the Rockets G-League affiliate in Rio Grande Valley. He was with the Rockets during training camp last season.
