Rockets guard Austin Rivers said Monday he intends to opt out of the final year of his contract, allowing him to become a free agent.
"That's something I'm going through right now with my agent," Rivers said on the RInger NBA Show Podcast with Logan Murdock and Raja Bell. "I definitely want to probably be out there on the market, and just see what else is out there."
Rivers, 28, signed a two-year deal with the Rockets for the league minimum last summer, but has a player's option for 2020-2021 that would pay him $2.17 million. The Rockets have early bird rights on Rivers, who joined the team December 24, 2018 and can offer him a contract up to $8 million.
"Houston's still one of my main options," Rivers said. "That's a team I loved playing for. But there's other teams out there that you want to look at. You owe it to yourself to at least see the best situation."
Rivers averaged 8.8 points in 68 games last season, making four starts. He scored a career-high 41 points on August 8 against the Sacramento Kings.
