HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- When news started to leak Thursday night that Steven Adams had been traded to the Rockets, Dillon Brooks fired off a text to his friend and former teammate.
"Is there any good news coming?" Brooks asked Adams, who he played with in Memphis the last two seasons.
The Rockets acquired Adams for Victor Oladipo and three second round picks a week before the NBA's trade deadline. The 30-year old will not play for them this season after undergoing knee surgery in October, but Brooks believes he will help the Rockets a lot next season.
"(He'll) bring a physicality that we haven't had at the post. He has so much knowledge on rebounding, on how to defend guys. He's been in the league for so long, and then his energy is just, he has a different type of energy."
Adams has averaged 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds over the course of his 10-year NBA career, but the intangibles are what really set him apart.
"He's selfless," Brooks said. "Will do anything that the coaches ask for. He listens to each one of the players. He tries to betterment the guards because he has a great knowledge of how to play with Russ (Westbrook), how to play with different guards, Ja (Morant), so he'll be a great thing for Jalen (Green) and Fred (VanVleet). One of the best screeners in the NBA."
Rockets head coach Ime Udoka said he's spoken to Adams, who is currently rehabbing in Washington D.C. While he will not join the Rockets until after their upcoming four-game Eastern Conference road trip at the earliest, Udoka is looking forward to bringing him in the fold.
"Another veteran guy to add to the group and mix in and contrast what we already have, so very pleased to have him."
