Rockets forward Tari Eason will undergo season-ending surgery to remove a benign growth from his his left shin bone on Monday, Ime Udoka announced late Saturday night.
Eason hasn't played since January 1. The team shut him down with the hope that rest would help him get back on the floor, but Eason experienced pain during his ramp before the All Star Break.
"It never had a chance of fracturing or anything, but it was just a pain tolerance thing," Udoka told reporters in Phoenix after the Rockets 118-109 win over the Suns. "Once the pain got too high, we shut it down and thought rest and rehab, he could get over it that way, but every time we ramped up the workouts, the pain came right back."
Udoka said Eason's recovery time will be four months.
