(SportsRadio 610) - The Rockets are trading center Daniel Theis to the Boston Celtics for Dennis Schröder, Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday.
Just ahead of the NBA trade deadline, Houston sends away its veteran center signed in free agency this past offseason, whose playing time diminished with the surprise development of rookie Alperen Sengun.
Theis signed a four-year, $36 million contract with the Rockets after spending most of the previous five seasons with the Celtics. He was traded from Boston to the Chicago Bulls last March before becoming a free agent.
Theis averaged 8.4 points and five rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game for Houston this season.
Schröder is averaging 14.4 points and 4.2 assists in 29.2 minutes per game this season. He should be provide valuable minutes at point guard behind Kevin Porter Jr.
The Rockets are waiving Freedom, Woj reports.
