Bill O'Brien says he regrets taking over as Texans GM

Get this. Bill O'Brien is acknowledging what everyone else who follows the Texans already knows.

To recap, O'Brien became the Texans' head coach ahead of the 2014 season, but clashed with then general manager Rick Smith. After Smith's departure following the 2017 season, Brian Gaine briefly held the Texans' general manager title, but that did not last long at all.

By the 2019 season, the Texans were operating without a general manager before promoting O'Brien himself to the position. What followed was bad contracts, trades and the fall of a franchise.

O'Brien, who is now the head coach at Boston College, recently appeared on a podcast with Christian Hackenberg, his former quarterback at Penn State. The coach was surprisingly introspective and self-aware. He said he regrets becoming general manager and should not have been in the position.

Sean Pendergast and Brandon Scott discussed what O'Brien had to say here.
