Houston (SportsRadio 610) - The Texans got their receiver.
The Browns sent the 44th pick to Houston, who selected Alabama receiver John Metchie, for pick No. 68 overall in the third round and picks 108 and 124 in round 4 Saturday.
Coming into the draft, the Texans wanted another receiver to go with Brandin Cooks, and they got a good one in Metchie.
Metchie suffered a torn ACL in the SEC Championship Game in December, which puts his availability for the start of the 2022 season in doubt. However, Metchie said Friday night that he should be ready to go when training camp begins in late July.
"I feel amazing," Metchie said, via Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network. "It was a little speed bump. I'll be good to play football in July with no training wheels. When I say ready in July, full-go football'
Metchie has been running and said he also has 'had a great relationship' with Texans offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.
Metchie led Alabama with 96 receptions for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He caught 55 passes for 916 yards and six touchdowns in 2020.
The Texans and Browns teamed up in March to send Deshaun Watson and a 2024 fourth round pick to Cleveland for three first round picks – 2022, 2023, and 2024 – plus a 2023 third round pick and a 2024 fourth round pick.
Watson then received a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract from the Browns.
