DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys added some much-needed depth on the interior of the defensive line agreeing to terms with former Houston Texans defensive tackle Carlos Watkins on a deal.

The agreement was announced by the team on Thursday morning, with Watkins reportedly being signed to a 1-year deal.

Watkins, who was originally selected by the Texans with the No. 172 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, appeared in 42 games with Houston over four seasons, starting 18.

During his time in Houston, Watkins was a solid piece of the Houston defense, accumulating 74 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, four sacks and two forced fumbles.

Most recently in 2020, Watkins had his best season as a pro, finishing with 27 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks in 11 starts.

The 6-foot-3, 297-pound Watkins now joins a defensive tackle rotation that is still looking to improve across the board, with other tackles such as Antwaun Woods, Eli Ankou, and defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford all hitting the free agent market.
